In April 2010, what I thought I knew about life and being human was blown wide open. I woke up one spring morning feeling happier and more peaceful than I had ever felt before. For someone who had been suicidal for years, plagued by anxiety and depression, it was the emotional equivalent of putting on active noise-cancelling headphones. Those painful feelings were simply gone, lifted.
